More About Ruskin
The town of Ruskin and college were named after the English writer and social reformist John Ruskin. Ruskin, a utopian, founded the Guild of St George, a celebration of workmanship that underpinned the Arts and Crafts movement of William Morris. Ruskin was a passionate educator.
Today, Ruskin is developing to keep pace with the population explosion taking place in Apollo Beach, Riverview and Wimauma, Sun City Center. Ruskin is typically a very quiet town, with quick access, within 5-10 minutes, to I-75. From there you can hit the beaches, Tampa, St Petersburg/Clearwater, Bradenton, Sarasota, Brandon, etc. in 30-60 min of travel, depending on traffic.
Governor Rick Scott and Amazon announced in 2013 that Amazon would create 3,000 new jobs in Florida with its new warehouse in Ruskin. At more than one million square feet, the warehouse is about ten times the size of an average Home Depot. In 2014 Amazon spent $46 million for Kiva robots at the Ruskin facility. In 2016, Amazon announced it would add an on-site training center for employees to enroll in college courses.
